If the “first-page rider” idea is to be taken seriously, then it has to cut both ways. Isaac del Toro didn’t just win — he beat Remco Evenepoel, the reigning Olympic champion. And look at the depth of riders behind Del Toro and still ahead of Evenepoel — this wasn’t a fluke result or a chaotic race. He put serious WorldTour names in between himself and an Olympic champ. Even on Remco’s worst days, a true first-page rider should at minimum be fighting for the podium — not finishing far down the GC. Elite riders don’t have “bad days” against lesser riders. That’s the whole point of being elite. If Del Toro can decisively beat Evenepoel in a WorldTour race, that’s not a gifted win — that’s evidence he belongs among the very best in the world.
