As i see it, this year's TDF proved to be wonderful for the sport: following the shocking domination of Jonas & Visma last year, you had an unprecedented performance from Pogacar interwoven with an unbelievable recovery from Jonas for 2nd. What's more, Remco met all expectations in his debut, and the GC was confirmed precisely in the TT finale. Honestly, what more could you *want*?? Is there anyone not already thrilled for upcoming races and even thinking about the fun of next year's TDF? I doubt it...there should be no hand-wringing or second-guessing at the moment.21-07-2024 23:14

"Radekwilkanowski" said it perfectly. Think it's more than a touch of bad form to see Pogacar's competitors talking about greediness, all they need do is look at recent tours with other winners like last year's TDF and Vuelta to see how hypocritical such comments are. Talk about "gentlemanly racing" when this sport is as cutthroat as it gets🙄. It's conflating one thing — cooperation in the dynamics of pro cycling races amongst riders/teams, i.e. good cycling strategy — with another — seeking to win "only just enough" so as to "allow" others to win their share. When you think about it objectively, it's quite ridiculous and doesn't match up whatsoever with the sport (in modern times, at least...although Merckx winning 8 stages in a TDF *twice* suggests it wasn't about "tasteful winning" back then, either🤣).21-07-2024 23:04

All top riders know Eddy Merckx's career records by heart, and know that 8 stage wins in one year is the mark he equalled *twice*. Eight stages in one Tour isn't quite the "gentlemanly" thing to do, but so be it. NBC/Peacock commentator Phil Liggett is a prime example of Jonas's target audience with his dig: Even after Pogacar-Jorgenson rundown yesterday, Phil stated on-air today that "i believe Tadej will concede to Jonas if it comes down to a sprint between them (now that the gc race is won)" Wisely, his on-air commentating partner vowed to "eat my cowboy hat" if Phil were proven correct. No hat consumption required.20-07-2024 23:05

Also we should note that if Pogacar were going to "give" anyone a stage, it'd be Remco. Stage 20 played out that Jonas was looking for Tadej's cooperation immediately after he made a move to lose Remco, and yet Tadej has FAR more philosophical – and personal – camaraderie with Remco, as Jonas well knows. So these comments and others in the news this year are all a bit of posturing and TDF social politics.20-07-2024 21:55

We're all in awe of Jonas coming back from a collapsed lung like this, however he did it (i dislike how so many folks just assume these riders are on PEDS without any actual evidence except performance...but if there ever was a suspicious indication of PEDS/peptide usage it'd be Jonas's recovery from **a collapsed lung a few MONTHS ago** lol!) That said, it's kind of ridiculous to even hope Pogacar would "let" him win the penultimate stage after how Jonas & Visma absolutely demoralized Pogacar last year. It's more along the lines of passive-aggressive criticism, taking another dig at Pogacar after he didn't "let" his Visma domestique win yesterday, either. The rivalry is ON and we should enjoy every moment of it!20-07-2024 21:43

This was 100% personal because of how Visma's juggernaut past two years beat Tadej, mostly last year. He was so dejected last year that, for a hyper-driven competitive guy like this?? OF COURSE he'll never forget that. So, picture this: now, Visma has a team moment where Jonas is losing and so "releases" jorgensen to race for his own glory and take a stage win... If you're really surprised Tadej responded, you're not paying attention! Armstrong is LOVING his return to having some spotlight, just loving it, so he's also no surprise to be acting like the ultimate hypocrite and telling others how to be a conscientious winner. Lolllllll that's really the funny part we should all be roasting. The intense rivalry and will to win between Jonas & Tadej is fierce and wonderful. Don't be a nihilist and decide they're all doping etc with no evidence but your assumptions, just enjoy the competition! (Until some actual proof or 1st person testimony of doping comes out, then f- 'em!)20-07-2024 20:38

This seems like a misunderstanding... Unless a cyclist asks/is interested about how tests work and the science behind each diagnostic i doubt the teams spend time explaining the science. No surprise Tadej wouldn't know it was carbon monoxide used in the test17-07-2024 07:48
