What is to stop him from kitting up, appearing at the start, pedaling 10m and pulling out with a “stomach flu”?

if he doesn’t want to ride, he will get an exception. this is no big deal. others have. Wout skipped the Belgian Road Championships in 2022 and 2025 with medical exemptions. in 2022 it was knee pain and in 2025 a sudden illness.

I don't think even Remco thinks he can win. He is so far down the pecking order it shouldn't even be a consideration.

I agree that Del Toro will not podium but I wouldn’t have him anywhere in the top 5. Del Toro would have no choice but to be the last one to launch Pogi in mountain stages and by doing that he’d blow himself up and lose a lot of time against his opponents. It’s impossible to spend that much energy and still be competitive. The only way Del Toro can compete is if he is not a launching pad for Tadej and he rides his own pace.
