Results UCI Gravel World Championships 2026 | Magnus Bak Klaris upsets Florian Vermeersch and Connor Swift after late crash drama
Gravel
Magnus Bak Klaris has won the elite men's race at the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships in Nannup, Australia, beating defending champion Florian Vermeersch and Connor Swift in a four-rider sprint after 143.7 kilometres of racing.
Lukas Pöstlberger, Peter Schulting and Jenson Young formed the main early breakaway and built an advantage of more than three minutes before the favourites began to close in over the second half of the race.
Mads Würtz Schmidt was among the strongest riders as the race entered its decisive phase. The European champion repeatedly forced the pace, with Bak Klaris, Swift and Vermeersch all involved as the front of the race was gradually reduced.
Vermeersch was briefly distanced during the attacks but fought his way back into contention before the final kilometres. Würtz Schmidt, Bak Klaris and Swift then put the defending champion under further pressure on the closing climbs.
The race changed again on a technical gravel descent when Würtz Schmidt crashed in a loose corner. He remounted quickly and was able to regain contact, leaving Bak Klaris, Vermeersch, Swift and Würtz Schmidt together for the finish.
Swift opened the sprint first, but Bak Klaris came past in the closing metres to take the rainbow jersey. Vermeersch finished second in his title defence, with Swift taking bronze and Würtz Schmidt crossing the line fourth. Paul Voss finished fifth, seven seconds behind the winner, ahead of Keegan Swenson.

- Rather than me describing the technology at length on here, If you google. Line-scan cameras. They are also sometimes called Slit-Scan cameras. Either search will fill you in. You can read all about how they. work. Enjoy! Just to be clear the cyclist is saying he wants to see exactly where the digital finish line is in relation to the actual physical finish. At this point we only have the word of the authority that the digital line corresponds to the exact starting edge of the physical finish line. That seems like a reasonable request to me.Prorodsandstuff11-10-2026
