After winning two stages, Santiago Buitrago has confirmed his first-ever stage-race victory at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana. Stage 5, a day for the sprinters, was won by Jonathan Milan.
Just over 100 kilometers on the menu, into the city of Valencia where just a few months ago severe floods caused unimaginable damage. The race was at risk of taking place, but the peloton delivered a lot of heat throughout the six days of racing. Five riders stood out throughout the final day of the race: Joan Bou, Jokin Murguialday, Sinuhé Fernandéz, Nathan Smith, Quentin Bezza and Edgar David Cadena.
The last survivor, Vezza, was caught with just 4 kilometers to go as Lidl-Trek began to control the head of the peloton. Throughout the day, Intermarché - Wanty also gave precious help in chasing down the breakaway.
But the stage winner wouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Lidl-Trek bossed the team time-trial, and it was clear that the leadout would be unmatched. Edward Theuns and Simone Consonni delivered the Italian powerhouse to the final meters and Jonathan Milan barely broke a sweat to take his first win of the 2025 season. Jake Stewart and Giovanni Lonardi finished second and third.
