Fem van Empel "very confident heading into next week’s World Championships" despite disappointing weekend

Fem van Empel has been the leading light in women's cyclocross over recent years. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike star has been notably less dominant this winter though, as evidenced this weekend at World Cup Maasmechelen and World Cup Hoogerheide.
After taking 6th in Maasmechelen on Saturday, Van Empel missed out on the podium again on Sunday, finishing 4th in Hoogerheide. “The feeling was much better than yesterday”, Van Empel reflected afterwards though, in a Team Visma | Lease a Bike press release posted on the team's official website. “I came back strong and rode well until the crash."
Despite the somewhat disappointing weekend though, Van Empel heads to her World Championship defence full of confidence. "Of course, it would’ve been nicer if it had been a great weekend, but I’m feeling good and very confident heading into next week’s World Championships," she concludes. "The coming days will mainly be about recovery to ensure I’m fresh at the start in France on Saturday.”
