Biniam Girmay eyes up future Cyclocross experience: "I'm going to try it someday"

After a breakthrough season on the road in 2022 including victory at Gent Wevelgem and a historic stage win at the Giro d'Italia, Biniam Girmay is now looking toward the future, a future that may include cyclocross.

“I follow the entire cyclocross season. At home in Eritrea I watch everything on television, including the women's races,” the Eritrean revealed at an Intermarche-Circus-Wanty press day. "It's nice to see how they compete with each other in cyclo-cross and fight for victory at the front."

Having often competed on the road against the likes of Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert, Girmay is more than interested in testing himself against them on the crosses. "I'll try it someday," he said firmly. “I don't have the time for it right now. Moreover; if you fall and you break something, it's done.”
