Wout van Aert confirms green jersey success whilst supporting Vingegaard's yellow defense

Wout van Aert committed to the fight for the green jersey and he has not given the competition a chance, taking as expected a multitude of points throughout the time-trials, mountainous and hilly stages to complement the points he gathered during the flat days into glory.

Having taken 17 points at the intermediate sprint today, Van Aert's advantage is now of 214 points over Tadej Pogacar, a gap that is no longer possible to close unless the Belgian is to be severely penalized or abandons the race.

“Apparently that is the case. That is very nice, but of course I have to stay on my bike and get to Paris. But it's definitely a lot of fun, I wasn't thinking about that today," he told Sporza after the stage.

The Belgian didn't play a crucial role today at the Tour as UAE Team Emirates took most of the responsibility in the peloton, however was present deep into the mountains of the day. He's been on sole support role for Vingegaard ever since his ambitions for the points classification got a point where he became his own competition, and for now Jumbo-Visma remain steady on top of both jerseys.
