After Team SD Worx - Protime missed out on the opening stage team time-trial win at La Vuelta Femenina 2024 on Sunday afternoon, Blanka Kata Vas took advantage of her close proximity to the race lead to launch herself into red via bonus seconds.
"I didn’t have the best legs today, but it was a very technical finish and that bode well for me," reflected the Hungarian post-stage, having finished second behind Alison Jackson in the sprint for the line. Those six bonus seconds, plus four picked up at the intermediate sprint though, were enough for Vas to move up the GC and now hold an 8 seconds lead in the overall.
"It’s nice to have the Red Jersey and it would be nice if we could keep it in the team. This is the goal for now on. I’m really happy to get the jersey," Vas concludes. "It was not really planned for me to take the bonus seconds, but I found myself at the front ahead of the intermediate sprint so I gave it a try."
