Arnaud de Lie has for the past two seasons been one of cycling's most interesting prospects. A sprinter, but he has also proven himself on the cobbled classics and hilly races, and in 2024 he will be looking to strike big in the spring.
“My main goal will be to have a nice Flemish spring. I'm thinking of top 10, top 5 in the major races. And why not win in a Dwars door Vlaanderen, Gent-Wevelgem or Omloop Het Nieuwsblad?" De Lie says in words to Sporza. In 2022 De Lie impressed in his neo-pro season as one of the highest UCI point-scoring riders, and in 2023 he took a step to race among the best throughout the year on several occasions with good results.
Among those were the GP de Québec where he took his first World Tour win, however he has shown great consistency and recovery from injury back in May. De Lie will be the absolute leader of Lotto Dstny in 2024 and should count on the support of the team. He was second this spring at Omloop het Nieuwsblad and fourth at the European Championships despite assisting Wout van Aert, results that are enough to know that he has the legs to feature among the best in some top races.
Besides those, he reiterates a specific goal that he carries into 2024. “The Olympic Games interest me. It is a course that should suit me: a long race, with short climbs. I know there are only four places and the tickets are therefore expensive. But I have already shown that I can also be a team player. I have already laid several cards on the table, maybe I can be a wildcard soon," he argues. Belgium will naturally have a tough time making the selections with so much talent present, however the 21-year old has already layed the foundation for his debut as an Olympian.
