“We will go for it” - Maxim Van Gils set to lead Lotto Dstny at Liège-Bastogne-Liège after podium finish at La Flèche Wallonne

After finishing in third place on the Mur de Huy at La Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, Maxim Van Gils is set to lead Lotto Dstny at Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday. The Belgian rider has had a strong Spring Classics campaign so far, as he finished on the podium at races such as the Faun Drôme Classic, Strade Bianche and the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain, as well as strong results at Milano-Sanremo and the Amstel Gold Race.

Speaking to his team ahead of the race this weekend, Van Gils said “we need to get as fresh as possible in the finale, I expect the race to break open quite soon as last year. Anticipating before the big explosion is also possible. If you can start La Redoute with a small advantage it can help to make sure you are up there after La Redoute. The best feeling is to put your hands up in the air, Sunday is a super big race and not easy but we will go for it”.

Alongside Van Gils for Lotto Dstny at La Doyenne will be Sylvain Moniquet, Logan Currie, Jarrad Drizners and Mathijs Paasschens, as well as the Danish duo of Jonas Gregaard and Andreas Kron.

Also speaking to the team, Kron looked ahead to the weekend, as he said that “our objective for Sunday is the podium. The strategy depends on how the race goes and the weather. Hopefully we can play our cards”.
