"We never thought we would be able to achieve all those goals" - Triple Grand Tour win a shocking achievement for Jumbo-Visma

Giro d'Italia with Primoz Roglic, Tour de France with Jonas Vingegaard and Vuelta a Espana with Sepp Kuss. Virtually, all three Grand Tours have been won by the same team in one season and with three different riders - who complete the full podium of the last one. It could've hardly ever been a more successful season for Jumbo-Visma.

"This is unbelievable. I am so proud and happy. The plan was to go for the three Grand Tours anyway. But step by step: first everything on the Giro, then on the Tour… We never thought we would be able to achieve all those goals, but of course we wanted to. This is a historic moment," Plugge told Eurosport. With the trio crossing the line together in celebration in Guadarrama, it is the image of a race and a year that has given the Dutch team more success than it could even hope for.

Having Sepp Kuss as a rider for the overall classification was not even a plan for the team here “but from the moment Sepp got into a good position, it was clear that we had three leaders," Plugge continued. "We expected a little more competition from Ayuso, but he is getting there and will be difficult to beat in the future. Now we were stronger."

Now all that's left is to stay safe on the bike in a final day of racing in Madrid. Plenty celebrations are expected at the finish line. "It was not easy – it never is to win a race – but we were able to finish it. We are going to evaluate everything. We are actually already busy looking at what can be improved in the future. But we won't be able to say more about that until December," he concluded.
