Primoz Roglic will be on the final podium of the Vuelta a España in Madrid on Sunday with two teammates. Behind Sepp Kuss and Jonas Vingegaard, third place belongs to the Slovenian, who has already won the Vuelta three times in the past. Afterwards, Roglic's happiness naturally predominates.
"It's beautiful, crazy," says Roglic with a broad smile about the greatest achievement of his Jumbo-Visma team. He then jokes and growls in typical fashion when he is asked by the NOS whether it has been tough at times in the last week. "Sometimes we ride pretty fast, right? We did it as planned, well deserved."
After the stage to the Angliru, Jumbo-Visma decided to draw the Kuss card for the overall victory. The American has already played an important role in the overall victories of both Roglic and Vingegaard in many grand tours. The team saw the final win in the Vuelta as an appropriate way to repay Kuss. Roglic initially had some doubts about that choice, but ultimately fully supported the team's choice.
"Looking back, it's wonderful to see how guys like Jonas and Sepp develop and take over my role. It is wonderful to see, I am very happy," concludes Roglic, who won the Vuelta himself in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Earlier this year, the 33-year-old rider won the Giro d'Italia for the first time. Only the Tour de France is currently missing from his list of achievements. He came closest in 2020 when lost the race in final timetrial.
