"We have several contenders for the Amstel Gold Race" - Juan Ayuso headlines star-studded UAE Team Emirates to challenge van der Poel at Amstel Gold Race

Juan Ayuso has just won Itzulia Basque Country and comes into the Ardennes classics with strong form. Amstel Gold Race is likely the one that suits the climber the least but he can be of danger in the toughest ascents, and is one of many strong cards for UAE Team Emirates.

“Personally I feel good and I am taking good form from Itzulia Basque Country. I think we have several contenders for the Amstel Gold Race," the Spaniard said ahead of the race. "We know this race suits someone like Marc Hirschi and I hope to play a role in the final too, so we will play our cards on the day. It is the first time for me that I am starting these competitions in good shape and I am very motivated.”

However Hirschi is only one, and probably not the best pawn of UAE. Finn Fisher-Black and Brandon McNulty will be extremely dangerous in roads like these and the fact that the team have numbers is very beneficial for a race that frequently has tactical finales.

João Almeida and recent Giro d'Abruzzo stage winner Jan Christen should also be able to race and attack amongst some of the best, giving UAE Team Emirates absolute freedom to attack the race from early on and try to make good use of their numbers.
