The Colle delle Finestre is one of the toughest climbs in pro cycling, 19 kilometers long at 9%, and with it's final kilometers in gravel. Yet, there was no such thing as pacing this Saturday afternoon, as
Richard Carapaz attacked right at the base; he and
Simon Yates have put
Isaac del Toro under absolute pressure.
The climb was 19 kilometers long but right from the base EF Education-EasyPost deployed all of their domestiques to set an infernal pace within the first kilometer to completely split the peloton and create a gap. Isaac del Toro was the only rider to be able to respond to Carapaz, and the two have built a gap over the rest of the GC group.
Simon Yates then bridged across with a stellar performance and right away began to attack the duo. Yates and Carapaz both attacked several times before Yates got a gap over the duo. With around 15 kilometers to the summit of the climb,
Derek Gee is also within reach but the attacks are non-stop.
