Volta a Catalunya's stage 1 was a day for the sprinters. Although rather hilly, the fast men had here one of few opportunities, but they were stormed by the GC riders. An exciting sprint between Primoz Roglic and Remco Evenepoel decided the outcome of the day.
The final 600 meters had an average gradient of 5%. That, alongside a rolling and very tense finale were enough to burn the sprinters. Jumbo-Visma led out the sprint, with Primoz Roglic launching his move first and taking the victory at the end, narrowly outsprinting Remco Evenepoel.
