Third at the Tour de France with a stage win and youth classification followed by a win at both time-trial and road race at the
Olympic Games. It could not have been a better summer for the Belgian that has just made history in the sport of cycling. This was achieved with, as usual, a solo victory after he attacked the group of favourites and later on
Valentin Madouas.
Evenepoel attacked the peloton with around 70 kilometers to go at first but was followed. With 38 to go, after Mathieu van der Poel's first explosive attack in the peloton, Evenepoel had perfect timing and attacked off the back with no response, dropping all his direct rivals.
He still had to pull ahead of the group that was ahead of him, but despite not having too difficult terrain, he managed to ride everyone off the wheel. Valentin Madouas was the final rider to survive this hellish pace, but Evenepoel's attack with 15 kilometers to go handed him a victory that he will never forget.
