Recon time 🍂 #ILombardia
On the 12th of October, the peloton takes on the final monument of the year at Il Lombardia. Pre-race, the two main favourites are the all-conquering world champion Tadej Pogacar or the double Olympic gold medallist Remco Evenepoel.
With the days counting down quickly to Il Lombardia, both Pogacar, Evenepoel and their respective UAE Team Emirates and Soudal - Quick-Step teammates have been spotted doing reconnaissance of the upcoming course, readying themselves for the challenges to come, or perhaps finding the perfect part to launch a long-range attack.
The route is extremely long, the traditional, and it packs in a lot of mountains in the region of northern Italy right at the base of the Alps. 252 kilometres on the menu with both long and short climbs spread all throughout, with a total of 4800 meters of climbing. A proper climber's race, the monument best suited to them. The race does have a flat start but it doesn't take long until that changes.
