The ninth stage of the
Vuelta a Espana was a a day where the breakaway was expected to succeed, which combined with the rolling start saw many riders trying to go up the road, and emotions getting high on the road.
Early on in the day, as some riders attacked and looked to make the move of the day, stage 5 winner
Marc Soler was unhappy with the lack of cooperation from
Robert Stannard who was following him, and the two entered a heated argument, with the successful group being formed shortly afterwards without the Spaniard's presence.
