Video: Fabio Jakobsen hit in the face by a phone at final Vuelta a San Juan sprint

The final stage of the Vuelta a San Juan had a thrilling finale with attacks from Remco Evenepoel and a tight final sprint, however not all was bright as Fabio Jakobsen was in a nearly-disastrous situation as he was hit by a phone from the crowd inside the final sprint.

The European Champion sprinted to second on the day, and has in the final meters ridden incredibly close to the barriers. Although he's avoided a crash tightly, slow-motion camera after the finish revealed a phone and sunglasses from a member of the crowd hitting him in the face inside the sprint.

The race organizers had already faced harsh criticism from Soudal - Quick-Step who saw Jakobsen out of the sprint on the opening day due to a very dangerous finale and very little crowd control, with Remco Evenepoel claiming he almost ran over a fan.

Following that, the lack of double barriers in the sprints and the amount of exposed arms and phones out inside incredibly fast sprint finishes are certain to bring forward more criticism. It is uncertain if Jakobsen has been injured due to the incident.
