After coming down with Covid-19 last week right before his expected start at the
Vuelta a Andalucia,
Vincenzo Nibali has in the meantime tested negative twice on rapid tests but reports this morning indicate the Italian is still positive for the illness after a positive PCR test.
The Astana Qazaqstan rider is eyeing a season with a lot of racing that should include tilts at the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, as well as a presence in all of the monuments with the exception of Paris-Roubaix which he's sidelining in order to go on altitude camp before the Grande Partenza. Nibali has started off his season with a modest 16th place in the overall classification of the Vuelta a Comunitat Valenciana and was set to continue his spell of racing in Spain in Andalucia, until like several other riders, he tested positive for Covid.
With this update it is unclear where the Italia will begin his season, the expectation is that it should be either at
Trofeo Laigueglia or
Tirreno-Adriatico, however more information should come in the coming days.
