The 2025 season has started and in the matter of a few weeks a few teams have already scored over 1000 points. UAE Team Emirates - XRG, unsurprisingly, already lead the charts with the victory at the Tour Down Under and a few of the Challenge Mallorca races. But in the top positions are a few other interesting teams, with big implications.
UAE, Red Bull and Movistar - teams of the podium riders at the Tour Down Under - occupy the Top3. Javier Romo's start of the season is giving the Spanish team a big boost of points but the most interesting team sits right behind. XDS Astana Team did not perform at the Tour Down Under, but Aaron Gate's surprising second place at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race combined with strong performances at the Spanish one-day races have net the team almost 1000 points.
Before the start of the season, it has been deemed virtually impossible for the Kazakh team to save it's World Tour license. It began the season almost 5000 points behind Cofidis, and also substantially behind Arkéa - B&B Hotels and Uno-X Mobility. Cofidis is actually also one of the teams with the strongest starts to the year, but Astana have gained back very quickly 500 points. As shared by Raúl Banqueri, the gap is now of around 4250 points. Still very hard but, the Kazakh team's pace is strong and gives hope of a big battle ahead.
Even if the team is indeed relegated to ProTeam it could safely secure Wildcards for all races if it continues like this, as from the provisional ProTeams for 2026, it is by far the best scoring. It has over double the points of Uno-X Mobility who just finished second and third at the AlUla Tour, and teams like Tudor and Kern Pharma who have already taken wins in this short European week of racing.

After a great January, Astana has regained 500 points on Cofidis, but still has more than 4000 points to catch up. They need to maintain this level.

At least, if Astana is relegated, they would lead the ranking for the 2026 wildcards. Arkea has a worse situation in that ranking. pic.twitter.com/tR6tiapRzg
