De Gendt was the first to get dropped, as Team Jayco AlUla did some strong work in the peloton to make the race hard in the climbs. The remaining duo was caught with 38 kilometers to go and the race for the win would open up afterwards. With 20 kilometers to go Christian Scaroni and Harrison Wood launched a move from the peloton that got a small gap, but in the final and main climb of the day the hard pace would see them get caught.
Jan Christen and Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda proved to be the strongest uphill here, but the Swiss youngster had the best legs on the day by far and dropped Cepeda on the climb itself. The downhill finale was perfect for the UAE rider and he managed to keep the gap to the chasing group, taking his third win of the season.
Vincenzo Albanese sprinted to second place from the chasing group as Cepeda was caught.
