UAE cannot stop winning! Jan Christen wins Prueba Villafranca with impressive solo attack

The Tour de France has ended but UAE Team Emirates does not stop winning. Only a month after turning 20 years old, Jan Christen has taken yet another win this season with a strong solo attack on the Spanish Prueba Villafranca.

The Spanish race marked one of the one-day races post-Tour de France that make up the transition. It is a race with quite some strong protagonists and the breakaway itself featured strong riders. Rémi Cavagna, Thomas de Gendt and Rory Townsend have rode up to the front of the race and put pressure in the peloton to keep a high pace throughout the race.

De Gendt was the first to get dropped, as Team Jayco AlUla did some strong work in the peloton to make the race hard in the climbs. The remaining duo was caught with 38 kilometers to go and the race for the win would open up afterwards. With 20 kilometers to go Christian Scaroni and Harrison Wood launched a move from the peloton that got a small gap, but in the final and main climb of the day the hard pace would see them get caught.

Jan Christen and Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda proved to be the strongest uphill here, but the Swiss youngster had the best legs on the day by far and dropped Cepeda on the climb itself. The downhill finale was perfect for the UAE rider and he managed to keep the gap to the chasing group, taking his third win of the season. Vincenzo Albanese sprinted to second place from the chasing group as Cepeda was caught.
