Tour of the Alps victory "provides motivation for the upcoming races" for Miguel Ángel López

Up until today, Astana Qazaqstan Team's season has been underwhelming and with injuries adding insult to the injury. It was an important day, as Miguel Ángel López conquered the fourth stage of the Tour of the Alps with an impressive display of power.

“I want to congratulate Thibaut on his achievement," López said after the finale. “If you win, you're happy. But I am also very satisfied with the work of my teammates. That provides motivation for the upcoming races. I knew I could still get to Pinot, but I didn't know how to beat him next," the Colombian admitted. However, as soon as he made contact with the Frenchman he attacked and Pinot didn't have an answer to the acceleration of the Colombian climber.

“I want to congratulate Thibaut on his achievement. It sucks for him, so close to the finish, but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. That is cycling," he concluded. Nevertheless, this was the first victory of the season for López and only the second for Astana Qazaqstan Team this season.

With the Giro d'Italia starting in the coming weeks, this win will come as a much needed boost for Astana, and it points towards a good preparation for López who will be one of the main contenders for the overall win.
