After the shocking news of the tragic death of Melissa Hoskins and Rohan Dennis being arrested and charged in relation, Australia's biggest race, the Tour Down Under has announced the recently-retired former National Champion won't be present.
"We are devastated by the news of Melissa Hoskins death. It’s an extremely tragic situation which has seen the loss of a young mum & champion cyclist," says the race's official X account. "We would like to express our deepest sympathies to all those impacted including family, friends & the broader cycling community."
Former INEOS Grenadiers and Jumbo-Visma rider Dennis was arrested and charged by police in Adelaide with causing death by dangerous driving after he and his wife, Hoskins were involved in an incident on Saturday night. He has since been released on bail.
Details about exactly what happened remain sketchy at this time although various Australian outlets are reporting different versions of the events.
The police investigation is currently ongoing with Dennis's trail date set for March 13th.
