Tim Wellens extends UAE Team Emirates contract until the end of 2025

Tim Wellens riding in the colours of UAE Team Emirates is set to be a sight that continues through 2024 and 2025 after the team took up an option for a third year in the contract of the Belgian.

Signing from Lotto Soudal before the start of the 2023 season, Wellens initially put pen to paper on a two-year deal with UAE Team Emirates but the team retained an option to extend the deal for a third year, depending on Wellens's performances. According to reports by Het Nieuwsblad, UAE are more than happy with what they've seen from the 32-year-old and as such have taken up the option for a third season.

Although he took just two wins during his debut campaign for the team, the overall at the Renewi Tour and a stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia, Wellens' work for others did not go unnoticed by the team. With the four-time Grand Tour stage winner set to make his three-week debut for the team at the Tour de France later this summer too, a big year could be ahead for Tim Wellens.
