Tim Merlier beats Mark Cavendish and takes victory in Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen

Alpecin-Deceuninck rider Tim Merlier has won the Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen. He was the best in the final sprint and crossed the finish line first to take the victory.

The breakaway consisted of seven riders, Sébastien Grigard (Lotto Soudal), Ceriel Desal (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB), Joyce Colin (Human Powered Health), Ward Vanhoof (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise), Stijn Daemen (BEAT Cycling), Thijs De Lange' (Metec) and Nick Van der Meer (Volkerwessels). The group worked together and created a lead of 1 minute and 30 seconds.

The group was caught 9 kilometres before the finish line. Tim Merlier proved to be the best in the final sprint and secured the win. Mark Cavendish finished second, and Dylan Groenewegen took the bronze.
