Former professional cyclist Puck Moonen has shared details of a disturbing incident while out riding her bike in Opheusden, Gelderland. Though she wasn’t physically hurt, the 29-year-old was visibly shaken by what she described as a targeted act of aggression.
“They deliberately tried to injure me, for no reason,” Moonen wrote on Instagram about her incident. “I immediately called the police. They were a group of young people who 'hate cyclists.' They rode past with an open car door and tried to hit me with a piece of wood.”

The retired rider, who ended her career in 2021, said the individuals responsible were located soon after. “The young people were found shortly after the incident, but they will not be punished.”
“They were a bunch of young people who 'hate cyclists',” she added, underscoring how senseless the act was. While no injuries were reported, the incident adds to a growing conversation around road safety and the treatment of cyclists in public spaces.
