Remco Evenepoel has had perhaps the most successful season he could've expected in 2022, and with the winter and a season in the rainbow stripes now laying ahead,
Patrick Lefevere is keen on Evenepoel remaining cautious after his many wins.
In an interview with RBTF, Lefevere said regarding Evenepoel: “I hope he has a winter without too many receptions. They always say that the world champion’s rainbow jersey is cursed. But it’s not the jersey that brings bad luck, it’s all the events at which the world champion champion must participate.”
The manager of
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team had expressed discontent on occasion with Julian Alaphilippe's stint in the rainbow stripes, and is likely concerned that the same would happen with the young Belgian superstar. However, Lefevere is confident that Evenepoel will say on track as he has throughout the 2022 season.
“Remco is fine. He met the team on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday night we went to dinner and he was very happy. He finished his season and now he is married — what more do you want?" he continued.
Lefevere concluded the interview by answering to what he felt regarding having such a talent in his team, to which he responded "it’s not magic, it was I who chose him to be on the team," in a light mood. The long winter months lay ahead, with enough time to consolidate the many successes of 2022 before eyeing a new season.
