Jonas Vingegaard and Uno-X Mobility
Jonas Vingegaard's future goals and ambitions in cycling remain among the most speculated topics in the sport following his crash during the Tour de France, with many pondering what's next for the Danish rider as he goes another year without beating Tadej Pogacar in the Tour. Now, a potential future transfer saga has gathered momentum.
The 2022 and 2023 winner even considered leaving cycling completely at the end of the 2025 season over concerns around his enjoyment of the training and lifestyle. But for discussions with Visma | Lease a Bike leading to greater control over his calendar and training, the 29-year-old could be already in retirement.
The change of priorities seemed to do Vingegaard good as he won Paris-Nice and Volta a Catalunya on the way to his Giro d'Italia glory in May. He faced the usual Tadej Pogacar onslaught and was preparing to mount a challenge of his own at the end of week two before a crash derailed his season.
With his 2026 campaign ended with a broken collarbone, the Dane has had some time to pick up the pieces and look ahead for 2027 as many speculate what he will target next season. One part of the reflection period has seemingly been contact with Uno-X Mobility - a team long linked with Vingegaard due to their policy of only signing Scandinavian riders.

Vingegaard's Visma deal and potential future transfer

With his Visma contract keeping him at the team until the end of 2028, Uno-X has emerged as a fitting destination for Vingegaard to go - where he would hypothetically begin the 2029 season at 32-years-old and beginning the final chapter of his career.
While those suggestions are a long way down the line, Uno-X team manager Thor Hushovd has added oxygen to those suggestions by confirming that they have had contact with Vingegaard about such a transfer.
“Cycling is a very small environment. There have been some contacts," Hushovd told Danish broadcaster TV2.

Vingegaard's salary a problem for transfer

While a Scandinavian team would be suitable for Vingegaard to ride the last seasons of his career, his Visma salary provides a stumbling block for the team - who would be unable to match the rider's current earnings with their financial structure.
For Hushovd, the team are already looking at options for additional sponsors who could help bring the backing needed to land Vingegaard's signature.
“The high salary is a problem. The ideal would be to find some Danish company interested in getting involved with our team. In that case, we could start thinking about the project."
Visma have already stated their interest in 20-year-old Paul Seixas as they made no secret their intentions to land the Frenchman as a potential Vingegaard successor. If that move was to come to fruition, it would pave the way for a Uno-X deal in the future.
