Every year the World Tour gets younger and younger. With teams seeking younger riders to secure the future's stars, more and more we see teenagers at the highest level. Entering the 2024 season, we have 10 riders below 20 years of age spread throughout several teams.
To note, one team is clearly putting more focus into these very young riders and that is INEOS Grenadiers. They have a contract with
Andrew August who is only 18 years and 81 days old as the time of writing.
Theodor Storm is one of the other three 18-year olds, but the team also has two 19-year olds who are already going on their second year as pro riders in European time-trial champion
Joshua Tarling and
Michael Leonard.
Markel Beloki of EF Education-EasyPost is the other 18-year old. In the meantime we've got also
Jan Christen and
António Morgado of UAE Team Emirates,
Emil Herzog of BORA - hansgrohe,
Paul Magnier of Soudal - Quick-Step and
Alexy Faure-Prost of Intermarché - Wanty. It is increasing the amount of riders - both in men's and women's peloton - to reach World Tour straight from the junior ranks.
