Life in the pro peloton has not always been easy for the INEOS Grenadiers' Magnus Sheffield in recent years. On the final stage of Paris-Nice 2025 this Sunday though, the American talent had much to celebrate as he soloed to a stunning stage win ahead of his compatriot Matteo Jorgenson in Nice.
"It’s really unbelievable. I’ve been second so many times now. It’s my first victory at the World Tour level. It means so much," the 22-year-old of the INEOS Grenadiers reflected emotionally in his post-stage interview afterwards. "It's just so hard to win any race. It means really so much."
Sheffield has had awful luck in regard to crashes over recent years, most notably being involved in a scary crash on the same descent that ultimately took the life of the late Gino Mader at the Tour de Suisse in 2023. Following that incident, Sheffield needed therapy to recover both physically and mentally, but with this win, the American is finally back to his very best level. "The team has really always believed in me through the tough times, and the same with my family," he concludes with a warm smile. "I think today we made a really good plan on the bus. We didn’t give up."
