Before becoming a two-time Tour de France champion, Jonas Vingegaard gained the attention of Jumbo-Visma with an incredible climbing performance on the Coll de Rates while training in Alicante, as he took the Strava KOM and produced impressive power numbers.
Now another young Dane by the name of Peter Øxenberg Hansen has set a new fastest time on the Coll de Rates, as he rode the climb in a time of 12 minutes and 38 seconds, beating the previous record set by Juan Ayuso earlier this year by 11 seconds.
Øxenberg Hansen actually rides for the same ColoQuick team that Vingegaard was on at the time of his record-breaking attempt, with his teammate Aksel Bech Skot-Hansen also attempting to break the record, as he equalled the time of Ayuso.
Speaking to Danish outlet TV Midtvest, the team’s sports director Christian Moberg Jørgensen commented on his rider’s record-breaking ride, as he said “when you break a record as significant as Peter Øxenberg is doing today, it will create some interest for him, but also branding value for us. There is a lot of attention on such a record here, and the boys must use that as a motivational factor, because you don't win a bike race by setting a record at a training camp. But that’s why it's still crazy”.
