The
Giro d'Italia features many of the world's best riders, and so as a consequence, many national champions end up taking to the start. This year 11 of them start the race and they have already featured at the very top of the opening day.
In this list we have got four riders who are both road race and time-trial national champions simultaneously. This features of course
Tadej Pogacar, the start of the race but also Kazakh headliner
Alexey Lutsenko, Australian
Luke Plapp and also Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider
Attila Valter who is Hungary's main figure.
When it comes to solely road race champions we've got the very prominent example of
Jhonatan Narvaéz (Ecuador) who rode an incredible first stage to take the pink jersey. Italy has it's own champion on the road in
Simone Velasco as well.
Italy has also
Filippo Ganna, it's time-trial champion on the road. We've got a few other time-trial champions present in the race who should be showing off their colours in the two time-trials:
Daniel Martínez (Colombia),
Ryan Mullen (Ireland),
Patrick Gamper (Austria) and
Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Eritrea).
