The Ardennes classics are right at our door step. After a successful spring campaign in the stage-races and cobbled classics, Tadej Pogacar will be leading UAE Team Emirates at Amstel Gold Race in the run-up to the fourth monument of the season.
After winning the Tour of Flanders, Pogacar will be looking to take his second win at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. He took his first triumph back in 2021 and will head into this edition as a big favourite, where he is expected to battle alongside Remco Evenepoel among other riders. After some post-Flanders rest, he returns to competition here, with Flèche Wallone also in the schedule for later in the week.
"The Spring has already been a big success for us but we’re hungry to come to the Ardennes classics and take home a big result, starting with Amstel," Pogacar said in a press release. "It’s a race I’ve only done once but I know it’s a long, hard parcours with lots of climbing so we need to be ready for a tough race.”
The Dutch classic is favourable for classics riders, and the team brings in Matteo Trentin and Rui Oliveira who were adamant to his Flanders triumph. Sjoerd Bax, Felix Grossschartner and Marc Hirschi will provide further firepower for the team in a team that is often aggressive, whilst Ryan Gibbons complete the lineup.
