The Super 8 Classic has seen the continuation of the Belgian semi-classics this Saturday afternoon and it delivered on the action, with Visma and Arnaud de Lie exploding the race in the bergs. In the end however the race would be decided in a sprint, where De Lie took his fifth victory in the space of a month.
The 200-kilometer long race was characterized by the many short and short climbs and the flat finale into Haacht. The Belgian semi-classic was expected to see many attacks and that was the case, although four riders anticipated the action to form the day's breakaway: Artem Shmidt, Miká Heming, Julius Johansen and Filip Maciejuk.
With 83 kilometers to go Visma hit the front with several riders and split the race, creating a group of around 25 riders that would join the front quartet with around 33 kilometers to go. Before that, there were many attacks from many riders including the race favourites and even the sprinters such as Arnaud de Lie and Pavel Bittner - who would be unlucky to crash out of contention. However there wasn't ever an attack that would stick and around 20 riders headed to the flat finale to decide the race in a sprint.
This would be the decisive moment of the day, in which Tudor leadout the sprint for Matteo Trentin, but the Italian was overpowered by Arnaud de Lie, winner of the GP de Wallonie earlier in the week. The Lotto rider was the fastest to the finish, continuing his enormous momentum and streak of victories this month, beating directly Matthew Brennan and Jordi Meeus in what was a tight and hotly contested sprint.
