"Sometimes I need to believe in myself" - Casper van Uden reacts to biggest career win on stage 4 of 2025 Giro d'Italia

Team Picnic PostNL have found things pretty difficult so far in 2025. On stage 4 of the Giro d'Italia however, everything came together perfectly as Casper van Uden surprised the bigger name sprinters to take the biggest victory of his career so far in a chaotic sprint.
"I had a strong, long sprint in me and went for it," reflected a beaming Van Uden in his post-stage interview afterwards, delighted to be able to pay back the support of his teammates with a Grand Tour stage win. "We knew our lead-out has been solid all year. All I had to do was follow Bram Welten and the other guys — they did an incredible job."
"I'm really happy I could give something back to the team for all the effort they've put into me. They always believe in me," continues the 23-year-old Dutchman following just his 4th career win and only the 3rd victory of 2025 for Team Picnic PostNL. "Sometimes I need to believe in myself too — and that pays off."
After the massive start to 2025 for the XDS Astana Team, this win for Van Uden could prove a big boost to the Team Picnic PostNL morale as they fight to keep their World Tour status.

- Tadej is not a cry-baby or someone quarrelsome/scandalous. If he said it was a risky move and he didn't like it, It was because he felt there was a danger that went beyond what was usual.
maria2024202415-06-2025 - Tadej himself descended like a mad man in the early part of TdF last year. I remember watching his mad descend to gain time on Vingegaard and his rear wheel lost grip for a moment and skidded. So, I don't think it is a fair to blame Visma for the fast descend. There will always be someone who wants to take more risk than others and there will always be someone who are naturally better at bike handling.
KerisVroom15-06-2025 - I only ride road and I have very unaero shoulders (high+wide) and an inefficient body shape (too long back too short legs) with a too injured back/basin to hope for sustained aero positions so not sure it will help me as much. ca bad at cadence, flat or downhill efforts, also hardly ever use up all gears even dead tired at 15-20% but I feel I lose too much energy moving legs/hips and was hoping the shorter cranks might reduce the amplitude and energy for pressing downwards. And with 500 to do before making observations it’s maybe something for a few years down the line if I finally get to a stage where I can take cycling seriously.Mistermaumau15-06-2025

leedorney15-06-2025 - The theory that having children in a high-risk sport like cycling makes riders less performing is based on the fear they feel of having a serious accident and leaving their children alone, so they (unconsciously) sprint/descend braked . This isn't the case of Kuss; he has no need to be braked climbing at 20 km per hour; he simply cannot.maria2024202415-06-2025
- Despite having torn a meniscus in September, not being able to ride before April and still feeling it slightly during rides a few weeks ago (plus immediately noticing I definitely shouldn’t try pedalling a bmx when someone came to buy my sons’) I did a pretty tough test ride yesterday 115k with 2200m and a 3km 15% section and felt/feel absolutely nothing anymore so hopefully as far as road cycling goes, knees are no longer a worry, now I have to start working on real condition again.Mistermaumau15-06-2025
