The crash score between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard ties at 1:1 at the end of the second week as the latter had been involved in a big crash at the start of fifteenth stage to Carcassonne. Unlike the Slovenian, Vingegaard didn't actually hit the deck, but with a race in full speed, it was nevertheless a dangerous situation with regards to his GC.
"I thought I had escaped, but then someone hit my bike and I almost went down," Vingegaard recounted the crash to media afterwards. Luckily, the Dane escaped unscathed and later returned to the peloton, even though it didn't come without complications. "But the chain fell off, so I had to put it on and come back."
As a large portion of peloton went down, there were suddenly multiple groups on the road. And then there were also riders still trying to break away. "Then there was a group out in front."
Quite tricky situation to navigate, but as UAE calmed down the pace in the bunch, all groups with GC riders have come together sooner or later. "The only thing I can tell you is that I was sitting in the second group, and we started chasing the front group, and I don't know what happened there."
