Stage 16 of the Vuelta a Espana saw a chaotic finale in Tomares, as the punchy uphill finish saw Primoz Roglic attack close to the finish and dramatically crash in sight of the line - whilst Remco Evenepoel punctured almost simultaneously and was briefly taken out of the race lead due to the time he lost. In the end he kept it, as Mads Pedersen sprinted to his second stage win of the race.
The crash of Primoz Roglic near the end was the major incident from the day, as he featured in the race's medical report alone:
1 - Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma). Polycontusions. Superficial wounds on right elbow, right hip, right knee and right rib area.
As for the sanctions on the day, all riders avoided it, but not all staff emerged unscathed:
Cofidis DS Christian Guiberteau: Getting rid of a bidon outside waste area (unidentified rider). 500CHF.
