Results Renewi Tour 2026 stage 5 - Jasper Philipsen wins in Leuven and conquers overall win

The 2026 Renewi Tour came to an end this Sunday and Jasper Philipsen was the man of the race. The Alpecin - Premier Tech sprinter had gotten the race lead the previous day with a sprint victory after a rough explosive finale; and on stage 5 the Belgian managed to win under the same circumstances.
The final stage of the race saw the riders take on a 183-kilometer long route, starting and finishing in Leuven. The final circuit mimicked last year's final stage - and the 2021 World Championships. A day for the sprinters who could resist the many attacks in the peloton; or the classics specialists.
Dries de Bondt, Hartthijs de Vries, Robert Stannard, Frederik Frison, Emil Herzog and Edward Theuns formed the day's breakaway, a group of specialists in this sort of terrain that made the job hard for the peloton.
GC fight in Leuven
The GC was still at play with Florian Vermeersch attacking with 20 kilometers to go, followed by Jenno Berckmoes who tried to put Jasper Philipsen's on the limit. The circuit didn't prove to be too hard for the Lotto-Intermarché rider to succeed in his mission, but the stage win was up for grabs.
Tomas Kopecky and Pavel Bittner attacked from the peloton and joined the escapees with just over 7 kilometers to go, with all groups close. The break way caught shortly after, and Berckmoes attacked Philipsen once again, with the Belgian's quick response. Tim van Dijke and Pepijn Reinderink then moved off the front right after.
As the riders entered the final 2 kilometers the peloton was once again compact, with Matej Mohoric and then a rider from Uno-X Mobility attacking off the front. A crash behind affected Biniam Girmay, thinning down and also stretching the peloton.
Astana were the ones taking to the front ahead of the final sprint, without any other teams having the men to chase it down. But in the final straight the Uno-X rider was caught in sight of the line and Jasper Philipsen sprinted to his second consecutive victory of the week.

- they are # 3. Visma has won more races than Red Bull. They have won a GT, but Red Bull hasn’t. They have won a monument, but Red Bull hasn’t. They have won 2 one week WorldTour races, Red Bull has won zero. Visma has 14 winners, Red Bull 11. Red Bull is almost totally reliant on Remco for its points. They bought won rider who won prolifically early in the season, they are not a better team. I never said Visma was at peak form. I said they would be the envy of the peloton less UAE. I think that is true. And these results are not indicative of a team collapsing. As for staff leaving, Red Bull lost Ralf Aldag and Dan Lorang. Staff comes and goes. using your measurement for staff leaving is irrelevant. If you build a good company, your leaders get poached.
