Lennart Jasch claimed victory on Stage 2 of Il Giro d'Abruzzo after attacking from the leading group inside the final kilometre and holding off a rapidly closing Netcompany INEOS-led chase in Caramanico Terme.
Jasch had already formed part of a three-man move with Matteo Scalco and Mattia Bais on the final climb to Scagnano, with the trio still holding 16 seconds over the peloton with 2.5km remaining.
INEOS and Euskaltel - Euskadi led the chase behind, while Peter Oxenberg worked on the front for INEOS in the closing kilometres with Dorian Godon positioned on the wheel of Kevin Vauquelin.

Jasch times final move to perfection

The original five-man break of Adrian Benito, Alvaro Garcia, Tommaso Bosio, Txomin Juaristi and Emanuele Ansaloni had been caught as the race entered the decisive final section.
Scalco then attacked with around 15km remaining, with Jasch and Bais responding before the trio opened a small gap. Scalco led over the Scagnano KOM before they carried their advantage towards the finish.
With the peloton closing rapidly behind, Jasch attacked again with 1.2km to go. That proved decisive. The Tudor Pro Cycling Team rider held on to win, while Godon surged through for second after INEOS had spent much of the finale trying to close the gap. Scalco completed the podium in third, also on the same time as Godon.
