Dorian Godon at Gran Piemonte 2026
Dorian Godon has won Gran Piemonte 2026, taking the sprint from a reduced front group after defending champion Isaac Del Toro's late attack was caught inside the closing kilometres.
The Netcompany INEOS rider beat Anthon Charmig and Alberto Bettiol to victory in Bra, with Lukas Nerurkar and Quinten Hermans completing the top five after a finale that had briefly appeared to be slipping away from the chasing group.
Del Toro had launched the most dangerous attack of the race on the final ascent of La Morra, accelerating around 18 kilometres from the finish after UAE Team Emirates - XRG had controlled much of the day. Finn Fisher-Black was the only rider able to follow, initially losing contact under another acceleration before fighting his way back to the Mexican.
The pair carried an advantage of around half a minute towards the final 10 kilometres, forcing the chase behind as Team Jayco AlUla and NSN Cycling Team committed riders to bringing them back.

Del Toro move puts the favourites under pressure

Del Toro and Fisher-Black remained clear as the race left La Morra, but their advantage steadily came down on the approach to Bra. The attackers were eventually caught before the final kilometre, ending Del Toro's attempt to become the first rider since Philippe Gilbert in 2010 to win Gran Piemonte in consecutive editions.
Del Toro then slipped backwards once the race came together, leaving the quicker finishers to contest the victory.
A crash in the peloton added further disruption in the closing moments, but Godon had made the decisive front selection and delivered when the sprint opened. Charmig crossed the line alongside him in second, with Bettiol taking third.
Nerurkar followed two seconds later in fourth ahead of Hermans, Fred Wright, Afonso Eulalio and Michael Matthews, while Jhonatan Narvaez gave UAE a place in the top 10 in ninth. Pau Marti completed the first ten.

UAE control gives way to open finale

Much of the earlier race had been shaped by a nine-rider breakaway featuring Davide Ballerini, Valentin Ferron, Santiago Umba, Brieuc Rolland, Manuele Tarozzi, Alex Diaz, German Dario Gomez, Luc Wirtgen and Aless De Bock.
The move established itself after an aggressive opening and remained clear through much of the hillier middle section, although UAE kept the gap under control with help at different stages from Bahrain Victorious and Jayco.
The escape began to fragment once the race reached the finishing circuit. De Bock was the first to disappear, before Wirtgen, Ballerini and Gomez were caught and Rolland, Ferron and Umba followed as the peloton closed in.
UAE then took a firmer grip approaching the final La Morra ascent. Jhonatan Narvaez accelerated as attacks began to split the peloton, setting up Del Toro's subsequent move and the two-man escape with Fisher-Black.
Their resistance ended before the sprint, however, leaving Godon to convert a strong ride through the late selection into his seventh victory of the 2026 season.
