Dusan Rajovic has proved to be the strongest on stage 3 of the Giro di Sardegna, taking the victory in a bunch sprint held in the town of Tortoli.
Despite being flat, once again there was a very unusual breakaway formation period, with
Soudal - Quick-Step's Pascal Eenkhoorn looking to be part of the front group, but waiting for the peloton as the riders who attacked early didn't wait for each other and ally. Instead, Ignazio Cireddu held the lead of the race by himself for a long time, joined later by Ivan Taccone.
A regular sprint stage, eventually the duo was caught with 26 kilometers to go; and with 11 to go Lidl-Trek Future's Thor Michielsen attacked, only to be caught just outside the final kilometer.
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe and Team Polti VisitMalta swarmed the front of the peloton ahead of the sprint, with their leadouts mixed together. Their two leaders Davide Donati and Manuel Peñalver sprinted head-to-head but had to settle for second and third; as from behind Serbian sprinter Dusan Rajovic sprinted to victory, an important one for Solution Tech-NIPPO-Rali.
