Results Eneco Tour 2026 Stage 4 | Victor Vercouillie stuns favourites on Col du VAM as Campenaerts retains race lead
Cycling
Victor Vercouillie has won Stage 4 of the 2026 Eneco Tour after attacking from the surviving breakaway inside the final few hundred metres on the Col du VAM.
The Team Flanders - Baloise rider opened a small gap with around 100 metres remaining and held on to take victory after 3:26:22, two seconds ahead of Ceriel Desal and Tars Poelvoorde.
The winning move came after the five-man break of Vercouillie, Desal, Poelvoorde, Rick Ottema and Julian Vergouw had resisted the peloton deep into the finale. Their advantage was still more than a minute inside the final five kilometres, putting the stage firmly in the hands of the escapees.
Desal was the first to attack in the final kilometre before Ottema responded, but Vercouillie made the decisive move moments later and created enough separation to reach the line alone.
The peloton had spent much of the closing phase trying to reduce the gap, with Team Visma | Lease a Bike, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe and Team Picnic PostNL all contributing to the chase.
Behind the break, the general classification favourites also traded attacks on the VAM circuit, but Victor Campenaerts successfully defended the race lead he had taken on Stage 3.
Christophe Laporte led the main contenders home in sixth, 12 seconds behind Vercouillie, with Pepijn Reinderink eighth, Campenaerts ninth and Finn Fisher-Black tenth in the same group. That left Campenaerts still in control of the Eneco Tour heading into the final stage.

- any rider less than 25 whether they are really ready for the position of leadership of GT is probably not the case. I think Pogi himself suffered when he was defeated by Jonas in the TDF twice. But that would be the team's job to ensure support so that they can bounce back. It requires a team and time to get back up and win after getting knocked down.abstractengineer07-11-2026

- Surely the UCI and the race organisers have a responsibility to ensure the best medical care is available to riders when incidents like this happen. All very well pushing for global expansion but not so good if riders lives are put at risk because medical support is not up to scratch.Andy12306-11-2026
