Can cycling fans imagine a world where
Enric Mas would be Jonas Vingegaard's teammate? This scenario, although impossible after the Spanish rider's renewal with Movistar, was close to becoming a reality according to a report coming from Spain.
It has been advanced from
Marca that
Team Visma | Lease a Bike contacted the
Movistar Team star to feel out his signing, similar to Simon Yates' transfer this past winter. The Spaniard is a Grand Tour specialist, but besides that has consistently performed near the top of the stage-racing field for several years already.
However, the Dutch team's proposal was immediately rejected by Mas. His only option was always to get a renewal with Movistar - which he has in the meantime done, all the way into the 2029 season.
Fortunately for the Spanish team, months of negotiations with its star rider finally came to fruition this May. Taking advantage of the second rest day of the Giro d'Italia, Movistar officially announced the renewal agreement with Enric Mas for four more seasons, until 2029.
The Spaniard has always been a life insurance for Eusebio Unzué's team, both in terms of results and UCI points. Although he hasn't managed to win for a few years now, with Movistar Team he has already accumulated 3 podiums in the Vuelta a España. He will continue to be crucial for the team over the upcoming four seasons, whilst this year he aims for the Tour de France and Vuelta a España oncee again.
