Remco Evenepoel's move to INEOS Grenadiers for 2026 has been more than a rumor after its merger with TotalEnergies and it was necessary to know what the boss of the team for which he is under contract, Soudal Quick-Step, had to say.
In an interview with Daniel Benson, the CEO of the Belgian squad, Jurgen Foré, wanted to make it clear that Remco is only focused on the cycling season and that there is nothing behind what has been rumoured: "I don't think these decisions are being taken now, and you also have to take into account that this is a rider with an important contract".
Such a move would be a game changer in the World Tour, seriously pushing back the Belgian team's ambitions in the Grand Tours and classics, whilst simultaneously boosting INEOS Grenaders' chances once again with a return to the top. However, it will be a difficult and complex move, if it is to ever happen.
He recalls the time when Evenepoel had a serious fall and that they helped him to come back. That they have invested a lot in him and that, above all and most importantly, he has a contract until December 2026. Foré will not budge from there.
"For five or six months we were paying his salary while we supported him in his rehabilitation. As a team, we made a significant investment to help him come back, and we did it the best way we could, with all the means available. Now it's time to focus on racing. When he's with the team, everything is smooth, he goes to altitude, he competes, and he does everything he needs to do. We also do what we have to do. So, for now, the only thing I have on the table is the contract, and that contract ends in December 2026," Foré concluded about Remco.
