Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have had a major arrival this winter in the form of Remco Evenepoel. He has done a team building camp, spent time in the USA working on his aero equipment, gone on a small vacation and now completed his first team training camp in Mallorca. A few of his teammates have shared their thoughts on the Olympic Champion who is set to become the new face of the team.
"Actually, I've been rooming with him, so I've been getting to know him a bit, and he's a nice, good guy," Jai Hindley said to Cyclingnews. The two aren't expected to team up often this year, perhaps with the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana or the Volta a Catalunya as their first outing together, but the Australian - former Giro d'Italia winner - is pretty excited with his new teammate.
"He's also pretty open and fitting into the team pretty well. I think the exposure for the team is also massive. It's one of the best riders in the world and a super popular rider, so for sure, with that comes a lot of media presence and a lot of old mates filming you getting ready on the bus or whatever – it's pretty random, isn't it?"
The 29-year old for sure loses some of his influence in the German team, however that is not set to become an issue as he has been given a leadership spot at the Giro d'Italia alongside Giulio Pellizzari. The duo have ridden to great performances at this year's Vuelta a España, and are set to try and improve on that in the upcoming Corsa Rosa.

Finn Fisher-Black on Evenepoel

"Now we have Remco, that's something I'm looking forward to as well, building a relationship with him and racing with him as much as I can," Finn Fisher-Black says. The Kiwi does believe that, as Zak Dempster argued, that the team as a whole can improve due to his presence.
"I'm a big believer in how people winning around you brings the whole team up, and I think Remco leading by example and showing that we can win these races as a team, can really have an effect on everyone else and on all the levels," he explains. "I think it'll kind of bring the whole team up, and as the ball starts to roll, you start to see maybe in some smaller races, the guys you don't hear about as much, winning as well, because they're in this winning environment, and that can be really valuable for a team like this."
Fisher-Black's calendar is not yet known, but it is very possible that the two will team up in the Ardennes, with Evenepoel racing all three, and Fisher-Black being specialized in the winner races. After being a support rider for Tadej Pogacar before, he teams up with another one of the world's best riders.
"I mean, I have my own goals in the season, but also I really like helping a big leader like that, as I have with Tadej in the past. With racing the Grand Tours, we're not so sure yet, but to be a part of the Tour team would be the goal for me," he admits. "And what I would be aiming for. But as you know, the selection, as always, you never know until the last minute."
