The 2025 edition of
Il Lombardia is taking shape and
Soudal - Quick-Step is the first of the big teams to confirm their lineup for the final monument of the season.
Remco Evenepoel is lining up for what should be the final race of his season and with the Belgian team, and although a win is unlikely, he is the rider who should come closest to Tadej Pogacar.
“We have one last big race for this season, and we are keen on showing the Wolfpack spirit and the determination that have brought us so many great victories this season;" team DS Davide Bramati said in a
press release. "Remco is motivated to end his season on a high note and we are motivated to give him the best support in order to get a good result in this prestigious race”
The 241- kilometer long race will feature several climbs and will be a day for those who thrive in the long ascents. Evenepoel didn't manage to perform as he wanted at the Tour de France, but over the year he put in strong climbing performances and at the recent European Championships he was the only man to match Tadej Pogacar's initial attack.
The Olympic Champion's current form is quite good and with a strong team including Mikel Landa, Mattia Cattaneo, William Lecerf Junior and Gianmarco Garofoli, the Belgian team is unlikely to lose control of the race - which UAE is likely to control in favour of Pogacar and Isaac del Toro.
Pieter Serry and Louis Vervaeke complete the lineup. “Lombardia is a beautiful race which brings a lot of memories from the previous participations," Evenepoel added. "At the same time, it’s a hard race, where you have to be really strong in order to be in contention for a nice result, and I feel that I come here with both a good form and a solid team around me, and this makes me confident in my chances".
