Remco Evenepoel was the winner of the Clasica San Sebastian in 2019 in surprising fashion and this week, with a lot more experience and responsibility on his shoulders, he will be returning in an attempt to take a second win.
The Belgian is starting his final third of the season here, after coming down from altitude training in Livigno alongside several of his teammates who will be joining him at the Vuelta a Espana. The Belgian team will have other options, with several climbers and puncheurs who stand a chance - in Mattia Cattaneo, Mikkel Honoré and Fausto Masnada - in what should be an open race where teams usually play quite a lot with their depth.
Quick-Step DS Wilfried Peeters has stated his confidence in the team for the day: "Clasica San Sebastian is a beautiful, and at the same time, hard race. Remco won it in his first year as a pro, Mikkel came close of taking the victory last year, and the two of them together with our other guys who will be at the start will form a strong team whose ambition is to get a good result".
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team for Clasica San Sebastian: Remco Evenepoel, Mattia Cattaneo, Mikkel Honoré, James Knox, Fausto Masnada, Pieter Serry and Jannik Steimle.
