French newspaper and race organisers La Dépêche du Midi have announced that the 2024 edition of La Route d'Occitanie has been cancelled. The race, which had already been reduced to two stages, was due to be held between the 15th and 16th of June in the region of Occitanie.
In a statement on race’s website, the race director Pierre Cabin said “An exceptional context linked, among other things, to events around the Olympic and Paralympic Games and mobilising numerous actors essential to the holding of general public events such as law enforcement and prefectures does not allow us to benefit from the usual and essential standards to set up our race”.
Caubin is optimistic about the race’s future though, as he looked ahead to next year’s race, stating that “it is not the end of an adventure. We will be there in 2025, with new momentum, a strengthened team and in the company of our loyal partners, we are thinking of the Occitanie region”.
